How Perplexity brings their brand to life with Jitter
Perplexity is an AI-powered answer engine that provides accurate, trusted, and real-time answers to any question.
The old way
Before Jitter, motion wasn’t a regular part of Perplexity’s design process — it was something they could only fit in every now and then. The tools they had access to were either too complicated or too time-consuming to be practical.
“I’ve always enjoyed motion design, but the workflows I’d seen before always seemed so complicated. I’ve dabbled into After Effects, but learning every aspect of that tool was overbearing. I just wanted a simple timeline and more control than Figma prototypes were giving me.”
Because of the steep learning curve that usually comes with motion design tools, only a few designers on the team used to be able to work on animations. This meant a lot of projects got put on the back burner, and the ones that didn’t often took days to complete."Very simple text animations used to take us hours to build in After Effects", says Phi.
The new way
When the team discovered Jitter, they quickly realized every designer on the team — regardless of their motion design skills — could use it to create animations. From social media posts to UI prototypes, ads, and presentations, Jitter became the go-to tool for adding that extra bit of magic to their work.
“When we started using Jitter, we couldn’t believe you can get these kinds of hi-fi animations done on the web, in no time at all.”
In the beginning, Phi and team relied heavily on Jitter’s motion design templates. Remixing those not only helped them saved time, but also helped them learn what the tool could do."Jitter’s templates helped me understand the possibilities of the tool – we owe a lot of the success of our marketing materials to those templates", says Phi. Lately, they’ve been drawing a lot of inspiration from the Community section of the template gallery.
“Seeing how other designers use Jitter is so inspiring, and remixing their templates has become part of our creative process.”
Today, they’re using Jitter for a variety of use cases: from social media and advertising to presentations and UI prototypes.
Social media
Animated social media content is one of the biggest use cases Perplexity has for Jitter. They’ve created their own templates they can easily reuse for product announcements and other comms, so creating a new post is just a matter of swapping in new text or images. In a few minutes, they’ve got something polished and ready to share.
The team also uses Jitter to create longer feature showcase videos for their social media. With the help of the infinite canvas, they can iterate very quickly and create different versions and size variations for each of their social media platforms side by side.
Prototyping interactions
Another big use case for Perplexity is prototyping UI interactions. With Jitter’s Figma plugin, the team can import designs directly into Jitter and quickly add hover effects, transitions, and other interactions.
“The Figma plugin has been a game changer for us.”
It’s a simple way to bring their ideas to life and show how things will actually work. Whether they’re sharing concepts with the team or testing interactions before development, it’s made creating and presenting a proof of concept way easier.
Advertising
The team also uses Jitter to add animations to their advertising videos. Paired with their favorite video editing tools, Jitter makes it easy to pull everything together into polished, professional videos.
The results
With Jitter, motion design is no longer a bottleneck at Perplexity. Every designer, no matter their skill level, can now add animations to their work. From testing out interactions for prototypes to building fun, shareable content for social media, Jitter has become an essential part of how they bring their ideas to life.
